CO2 Laser Marking on Electroplating Low Carbon Steel

The CO2 laser is widely used in various steel marking applications. This special application shows that the CO2 laser has the ability to permanently mark the plated low carbon steel. Before marking, we will harden the low carbon steel, and then coat the surface with zinc-nickel anti-corrosion coating.

In order to make permanent and high contrast marks on these components, we installed 125 mm high power lenses on Firestar T80 laser and FH flyer marking head to form a focal spot with 180 um (0.007") and 3 mm (0.118") focal depth. The shorter rise time (<75 μsec) and square wave output of T-series technology mean that the material can absorb more laser energy, especially for those high threshold materials similar to metals.
